Walter Hammer Obituary
Walter S. Hammer, age 89 of Clear Lake, WI died on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the Oakwood Villa Nursing Home in Altoona, WI where he had been a resident the past few years.
Walter Steven Hammer was born on April 11, 1925, in Gilman Township near Spring Valley, WI, one of four sons of Arthur C. & Jesse (Geving) Hammer. He graduated from Gilman Center School and attended Spring Valley High School. He was baptized and confirmed at Gilman Lutheran Church in Spring Valley. Following school, Walt continued working on the family farm and part time in construction.
On June 1, 1958, he, along with his brother Robert established Hammer Furniture and Funeral Service in Clear Lake, WI. He was active in his community serving various posts with First Lutheran Church, Community Club, Golf Course, All Veterans Memorial and was a charter member of the Clear Lake Lions Club.
On June 11, 1966 Walt was married to Molly Hemauer. Following her death in 1968, he married Audrey Wold, on June 30, 1973. In 1984, he and his brother dissolved their partnership, and then Walt and Audrey continued to operate Hammer Furniture and Floor Covering. In 1995, they closed out their business and sold the store building. They continued to live in Clear Lake until 2007 when health issues required a move to the Eau Claire area to be near their daughter Cindy.
Walt is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur & Jesse Hammer; wife, Molly; wife, Audrey;
step son, Gary Wold; brothers Phillip (Anne) Hammer & James Hammer
