Shirley J. Balog

Shirley J. Balog, age 94 of Amery, WI formerly of the Clayton, WI area, died on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Judy’s Cottage at the Golden Age Manor Nursing Home in Amery, WI where she had been a resident for the past year and a half.  

Shirley Jean Balog was born on May 30, 1929 in New Haven Township, Dunn County, WI, the daughter of Joseph Roy and Mildred (Anderson) Pittman.  She grew up in Barron County, attended Reeve Elementary School and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1947. On April 25, 1947, Shirley was married to Charles A. Balog at her parents’ home in Barron County. Together they made their home in Hillsdale where they farmed. They later moved to a farm just northeast of Reeve and raised three children, Juanita, Randall & Bradley.  In 1959, Shirley began working for the United States Department of  Agriculture in Barron County as a poultry inspector. It was also during that time she was baptized and confirmed at United Lutheran Church in Prairie Farm, WI where she had been an active member for many years. Shirley enjoyed quilting, crocheting and over the years knitting mittens for family, friends and area schools. She also enjoyed playing cards, rolling  Farkel dice and was an avid reader. In her later years, she became a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Clayton, WI and enjoyed quilting with the Faith Church ladies, attending church suppers with her best friends Gilda Sura & Bev Curtis. Shirley especially loved spending time with her family, grandkids, great grandkids, nieces and nephews and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Balog Jr.; parents, Joseph Roy, & Mildred Pittman; 

infant granddaughter, Billie Jo Balog; infant great grandson, Isaiah Balog;

 sisters, Crystal Regelin & Lorraine Shepard; brothers, Maynard, John, & Charles Pittman;

Grand-daughter in law, Jess Balog;  and beloved sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Funeral Service at 11 am on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Faith Lutheran Church in Clayton, WI.

Visitation - Sunday, December 3, 2023 at the Scheuermann Funeral Home from 3 – 6 pm and an hour before the service at church on Monday

Interment will be at the Northern WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI
