Robert W. Witthoft, Sr.

Robert W. Witthoft, Sr. age 76 of Clear Lake, WI, died at his home on November 5, 2013 surrounded by his loving wife of 57 years, his children, grandchildren, and daughters in law after a long battle with heart disease and many medical problems.

Robert W. Witthoft was born on October 3, 1937 in Clear Lake, WI, the son of Homer & Grace (Christensen) Witthoft.  He grew up in the Clear Lake area, was baptized and confirmed at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1955.  Robert then entered the US Navy and began training as a medic at the Great Lakes Naval Base Hospital Corpsman School in Waukegan, IL and later moved on to Field Medical School at Camp Lejeune, NC.   On May 12, 1956 he was married to Gwendolyn Martin at the First Free Methodist Church in Mason City, Iowa.  Together they returned to the Clear Lake area and raised seven children, Stephen, Terry, Deann, Cynthia, Robert Jr., Leigh, & Kenric.   Robert & Gwen were childhood sweethearts and celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary this year.   Over the years Robert worked as an orderly at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul, MN and then at St. Joseph’s Hospital in River Falls, WI as a surgical tech.  He later went to work and became a supervisor at Waldorf Corporation in St. Paul, MN for many years, retiring in 1990.  In his spare time,  Robert enjoyed fishing, hunting, bird watching, reading, spending time at the cabin in Cornucopia, WI, shopping at Menards with his son Leigh,     fixing things and watching high school sports with his sons.  He especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, & great grandchildren.  Robert was also an avid reader and served as President on the Clear Lake Library Board for the past 13 years.  He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

A Private Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Scheuermann Funeral Home
in Clear Lake, WI

Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery with full military honors by the Clear Lake Area All Veterans Honor Guard

Visitation  -  Friday, November 8, 2013 from 4  -  7 pm  at the Scheuermann  Funeral Home in Clear Lake, WI
