Richard Nels Hansen

Richard  N.  Hansen,  age 79 of Clayton, WI, died peacefully at his home on Friday,  March 13, 2026. 

 Richard Nels Hansen  was born on January 16, 1947 in New Richmond, WI, the son of Nels & Gloria (Sandmann) Hansen. He grew up in New Richmond, played sports in school and graduated from New Richmond High School in 1966.  After graduating, Richard began working as a press operator at the St. Croix Press in New Richmond and was employed there for over 40 years.  He was married on October 4, 1969 to Kathy Berends at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Richmond.  Together they made their home there and raised two children, Marsha and Brent.  They later divorced.    At this time, Richard moved to Lake Magnor in Clayton, WI where he transformed their small cabin into his permanent home.  Not only did he take pride in his home, Richard voluntarily took care of the public beach at Lake Magnor for many years.  He was an avid Wisconsin Badger and Green Bay Packer Fan,  enjoyed riding horses, and  cruising the lake with his “Badger” pontoon, annually taking handicapped kids and adults fishing on Lake Magnor.  Richard was proud of his family and grandkids and was nick named “Ricardo” by his many friends who will sorely miss him.

He is preceded in death by his parents;  Nels & Gloria (Sandmann) Hansen; 

brother in law, Jerry Wester, & niece, Dannielle Follmer 

He is survived by

Son  -  Brent Hansen

There will be a Celebration of Life at the Scheuermann Funeral Home in  Clear Lake,  WI 

on Saturday,  March 21, 2026  from 1  -  4PM
