Mary Kay (Denzer) Johnson, 83, of Afton, MN, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, surrounded by family.
Mary Kay (Denzer) Johnson was born on July 24, 1940, in Menomonie, WI, the daughter of Woodrow & Irma (Ooley) Denzer. She was an older doting sister to her two brothers, Scott and John. In 1953, she moved with her family to Minneapolis, MN, and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1958. After graduating, Mary Kay worked as a telephone operator for 9 years. On June 5th, 1965, she married Manley Johnson at Moe Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, WI. They lived in Minneapolis and raised two children, Krista Adele and Adam Manley. The sun rose and set with her two children, and she stayed home with them until they entered kindergarten. Mary Kay was an Educational Assistant for 34 years, taking a year off to stay home with grandson Tor. Mary Kay retired in 2006, she was adored by her students and made many lifelong friends. Her fondest memories include weekend visits to Little Blake Lake, camping trips to Kenora, Canada, visiting Disney World & DisneyLand, cruises to Europe, and a journey with her beloved card club to The Cayman Islands.
In her spare time, Mary Kay found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed watching movies, playing games and cards, shopping, eating out, and, most importantly, keeping up with friends and family. Her love for her family and friends was immeasurable, and she will be sorely missed by those who loved and knew her. As her friend stated “We have lost our generous, loving matriarch and eternal advice giver.” We plan to honor her life in true Mary Kay fashion by wearing bright lipstick, funky earrings and colorful clothing/animal print.
