Marlene Mayers Obituary

Marlene K. “Marne” Mayers, age 74 of Clayton, WI, passed away on May 6, 2019 at the Heritage Lakeside Nursing Home in Rice Lake, WI.

Marlene Kay Mayers was born December 29, 1944 in Coal Valley, Illinois the youngest child of Marvin C. and Mabel (Petty) Murphy.  At a young age she was baptized and brought up in the Christian faith.  Marlene attended various schools, graduating from Rockridge High School in Taylor Ridge, Illinois in the class of 1962.   In 1963, Marlene married John M. Mayers Jr. and to this union 2 children were born, John Michial the III in 1964, and Lisa K. in 1965.    Together they worked and raised their children in and around Rock Island, Illinois.   John Jr. passed away in 2005 after 42 years of marriage.  In addition to making a home for her family, Marlene worked at a variety of occupations including office work, laying field tile, and planting tomatoes.   She always enjoyed living in the country, riding horses and taking care of her animals.  She also enjoyed  bowling , playing cards, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, and having camp fires with family and close friends.  In 2010, Marne moved to rural Clayton, Wisconsin where she lived on a farm with Clayton Madlung.   Due to her suffering from MS, Marne entered a rest home in November 2017.  With rehabilitation, she was able to live on her own in a handicapped accessible apartment in Cumberland, WI before succumbing to congestive heart failure and complications.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Mayers Jr.;   her  parents,  Marvin &  Mable Murphy;  
infant sister Betty;  & brother, James.

Memorial Services will be at the church where she was a member, Moe Lutheran Church in rural Clear Lake, WI at 4:00 P.M. on May 9, 2019 with Pastor Margaret Grant officiating.  Visitation one hour prior to service.
