Lyman Harley Dreier, age 88, of Clear Lake, WI, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 7th, 2013. He was born in Norwalk, WI on September 10th, 1925, to the late Clarence and Anna Dreier.
On August 12th, 1950, he married the love of his life, Irene Moltzer. They raised five children together and were married for 56 blissful years, before Irene’s passing of cancer seven years ago. He was content to live his entire life in Clear Lake; he and Irene owned a good size dairy farm for many years before moving to their lake home on Clear Lake. He then decided to drive school bus . . . something he did for over 20 years, well beyond retirement simply because he loved “his kids” so much. He would often tear up in joy when telling the family stories of his experiences while driving bus.
As a hard working farmer most of his life, he didn’t have a lot of outside hobbies but the family finally got him interested in fishing a number of years ago, and before long, he was the owner of a pontoon and we couldn’t keep him off of the lake! His #1 hobby was woodworking, making many quilt racks and various decorative items. He simply enjoyed tinkering with anything he could.
Lyman was so full of life you could always find him at the high school sporting events: football, basketball, wrestling . . . he loved them all. We’re not sure if he liked the sports or flirting with the cheerleaders though! If you know Lyman, you’re sure to know his love of sweets, especially chocolate and ice cream. Having the Schwan’s truck stop every other week was a big thing at the Dreier household.
Where someone needed help, Lyman was the one to offer a helping hand. He was a beloved member of the Clear Lake community, active in Lions Club and a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. He loved mowing the lawns at the local cemetery and Ridgeview where he resided the last few years. He was “the one” to grill the brats for the infamous “Brat Stand” . . . a job he loved so he could talk to everyone!
Lyman is preceded in death by his wife, Irene; sister Eleanor Gillespie; and his parents.
Surviving are his daughter, Chris (Dave) Goodmanson, Long Beach, CA; son Lynn (Jill) Dreier, Clear Lake; son Mike (Marlene) Dreier, Clear Lake; son Tim (Andrea) Dreier, Hudson; and daughter Anne Jackson, Phoenix/Hudson.
He is also survived by two sisters, Lois Twetten, Arlington, MN and Lori Dreier, Palm Desert, CA.
Many grandchildren: Jennifer (Kevin) Lazarchic , Chad (Michelle) Goodmanson, Josh (Jonnie) Goodmanson, Trisha Goodmanson; Lori (Jeff) Jarchow, Scott (Laura) Dreier, Jen (Matt) Johnston, Angie (Wayne) Camper, Jeri Lynn (David) Murin, Aric (Gina) Tourville, David (Traci) Dreier, Kim (Adrian) Meador, Brooke and Nils Dreier; and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
