Lowell J. Nelson

Lowell J. Nelson, age 75 of rural Clayton, WI died unexpectedly early Sunday, August 5, 2012 at the Amery Regional Medical Center in Amery, WI.

Lowell James Nelson was born June 9, 1937 to the late Laurence and Dorothy Nelson and was raised on the Nelson family in Vance Creek Township.  He attended elementary school there and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1955.  In the years following, Lowell owned and operated a bulk milk truck route in the Clear Lake area and later expanded the operation into an over the road trucking company.  In 1963, Lowell became a WI State Patrol officer, during his service to the state he was transferred to different locations, largely in the I-94 corridor.  He left there in 1978 as a Patrol Sergeant to again work in trucking.  After a short stint as a driver with    Consolidated Freightways, he became the Midwest Area Safety Manager for the company and covered numerous states and terminals on a 24/7 basis.  On September 16, 1979, Lowell was married to Connie Horky in Anoka, MN and together they made their home there,  retiring in 1999.  They then moved to Sierra Vista, AZ where they lived for 3 years before returning to rural Clayton in 2002.   They built a house on their farm, the former Rowe homestead in the Reeve community.  In addition to his love of the outdoors, he followed current news closely.  Lowell was a volunteer on the Barron County Council for the Aging and active in various charities along with his wife In his spare time, Lowell enjoyed the outdoors, which included gardening, hunting, making maple syrup and snowshoeing. Lowell was a avid Green Bay Packer Fan. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Memorial Service at the First Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, Wisconsin ,
Thursday, August 9, 2012  at  11 am.

Clergy was Rev. Peter Rimmereid.     Music by Brian Wick.

Interment will be at the Reeve Cemetery in Reeve, WI
