Juanita M. Wood

Juanita M. Wood, age 96 of Clear  Lake, WI, died on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Willow Ridge Care Center in  Amery, WI.

Juanita Mariam Wood was born on November 23, 1917, in Glendive, Montana, the daughter of Walter & Jennie (Carter) Seekins.    The family moved to Amery, WI in 1927 and she attended school there.    At the age of 15, Juanita quit school and began earning money doing house work at $2.00 per week.  By the age of 16 was playing piano and organ in a dance band, making $2.00 per night, which was much better.   On October 16, 1937,  Juanita married Merle E. Wood in Boring, Oregon.   Together they made their home in Oregon and she worked on the  Rationing Board during WWII.   In 1945, Merle and Juanita returned to Clear Lake where they bought the trucking business from his dad and hauled cattle and freight until 1947.  They later sold the trucking business and bought the Plumbing Shop from Clifford Paulson.   They bought and remodeled the Fred Wigand Barber Shop in Clear Lake and  in 1955 bought and remodeled the Albertson Garage Building.   Together they operated the plumbing and heating business in Clear Lake until 1968, when they sold the building to Dr. Groskopp and bought the Fitzer place. Merle then sold the Plumbing business to Dalhberg Hardware in the spring of 1969.  He then developed the Knollwood Trailer Court in Clear Lake before selling it to John Madden in 1975.  Merle and Juanita built their home near the trailer park and remained there until they moved to Ridgeview Apartments in 2005.  She has lived at the Riverbend  Senior Living in Amery since April of 2011.     Juanita was an active member of Clear Lake United Methodist Church and was the organist there for many years.  She was also an active member of the Clear Lake Masonic Eastern Star for over 50 years.  In her spare time Juanita loved music and enjoyed visiting with friends and family.  In June of 2014, Juanita moved to Willow Ridge and remained there until the time of her death.

Preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Merle; her parents, Walter & Jennie Seekins.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews, family, & friends.  

Visitation is Tuesday from 5-7 PM at the Scheuermann Funeral Home of Clear Lake, WI
and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.
