Joyce R. Mattila, age 88 of rural Clayton, WI, formerly of Ely, MN, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at her home in Clayton.
Joyce was born on June 1, 1936 in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Robert “Art” & Lynette (Evans) Moats. She moved with her family to Ely, MN as a child. Joyce attended school there and graduated from Ely High School. She was married to Robert O. Mattila and together they raised 4 children. DeAnn, Michelle, Bryan & Darren. Joyce raised her family in Ely and spent much time with them at their cabin on Burnside Lake. She enjoying hiking, kayaking , snow shoeing, camping in the Boundary Waters, reading and doing puzzles. Bob and Joyce were also active members of the Ely United Methodist church. Shortly after Roberts death in 2018, she moved to her son’s home in Clayton, WI.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Mattila; parents, Art & Lynette Moats; brother, Arthur Moats;
grandson, Aaron Birdsong; and son in law, Mark Posch.
