Jeffrey A. Junkans, age 64 of Almena, WI, died unexpectedly of a cardiac event on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at his home in Almena.
Jeffrey Allen Junkans was born on July 24, 1959 in Amery, WI, the son of Boyd and Delores (Engebretson) Junkans. He grew up in the Clear Lake area and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1977. After graduation, Jeff went to work at Hartzell Manufacturing in Turtle Lake and later went on to run the shipping department there. In 1983, Jeff was married to Tereasa Kathrine and together they had two children, Brandon and Amanda. They later divorced in 1991. After working at Hartzell for over 25 years, Jeff moved on to work at Quanex for a short time before obtaining his CDL though Roehl Transport. He drove truck for Cedar Crest and later went on to Wenger Distributing where he was most recently employed. On January 1, 1997, Jeff was married to Bonnie Burke at First Lutheran Church in Barron, WI. Together they made their home in Almena and loved their blended family: Brandon, Amanda, Joshua, Angela, and Benjamin. Jeff was baptized as an adult at First Lutheran Church in Barron and later went on to become an active member of the Reeve Evangelical Free Church in Clear Lake, WI. His faith was very important to him along with his strong sense of community service. Jeff was an active member of the Almena community where he lived for over 40 years. He was a member on the Almena Village Board for over 30 years, served as the Almena Village President and was a member of the Almena volunteer fire department. Anytime there was a need - from a friend or his church or his family - Jeff was always happy to help and serve. Jeff and Bonnie enjoyed beekeeping with fellow beekeeper friends, gardening, carpentry, and baking, with their specialty making Papa's croissant rolls, bread, and lefse. Jeff and Bonnie took several nice vacations together over the years. He especially loved spending time with his family, children, grandchildren. and friends. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.
