James R. Slate, age 75 of rural St. Croix Falls, WI, died on Sunday, March 31, 2024 at the St. Croix Falls Hospital after a long battle with many health issues.
James Raymond Slate was born on June 3, 1948 in St. Paul, MN the son of James & Shirley (Plaster) Slate. He grew up in North St. Paul and graduated from North High in 1966. After graduation, James enlisted in the US Army and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1969 and continued to serve in the Army Reserves for many years. James returned to Minnesota and attended Lakewood College, receiving a degree in Psychology. Over the years, he worked as a correctional officer at Lino Lakes, at Stillwater and later in Polk County, WI. In his spare time, James enjoyed sailing and scuba diving. He also played guitar and sang in County Rock Bands for many years with his band the Sundowners who performed in many venues in the Twin Cities and Western Wisconsin. James will be sorely missed by family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; James & Shirley Slate.

There will be a Celebration of James life on Sunday, June 30, 2024 from 1-3 pm at the American Legion Club in North St. Paul - 2678 7th Avenue East, North St. Paul, MN 55109
