Helen Hansen Obituary

Helen M. Hansen,  age 87 of Clear Lake, WI,  died  on Sunday, September 13, 2015, at the Amery Regional Medical Center in Amery, WI.  She had been a resident of the Golden Age Manor in Amery for the past year.

Helen Marie Hansen was born on September 7, 1928, at Ridler’s Mill in rural Amery, WI,  the daughter of Harley & Oreatha (Walters) Thompson.  She grew up in Amery, was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church there, and attended Amery Schools.   Helen was married to Lawrence “Squirrel” Hansen at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Amery on June 10, 1947.    Together they made their home in Clear Lake, WI and had three children, Michael, Susan & Brent.   In addition to raising her family,  Helen worked various jobs over the years.  Before her retirement, she was employed as a nurses aid at the Golden Age Manor in Amery.  Helen enjoyed embroidering, drawing, writing poetry and collecting angels of all kinds. She was well known for her beautiful penmanship that could never be replicated. When you received a card in the mail with one glance you knew who it was from.  Helen loved to sing and enjoyed being a member of choirs, including  St. John’s Catholic Church in Clear Lake, where she was a member.   Her dad was Irish and she was proud to be Irish as well.  She loved to talk about her memories of her dad as he died when she was fairly young.  Helen also loved to tell a few stories of being born on the Ridler’s Mill(Country Dam) and being a kid there.  She loved good conversation and a good cup of hot tea.  Helen was a sincere loving, caring, warm person who loved to see her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be missed by all of her family and friends.
