Gloria J. Thompson

Gloria J. Thompson, age 81 of Deer Park, WI died unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, WI.  

Gloria Jean Thompson was born on June 21, 1935 in Indian Creek, Lorain Township, Polk County, WI, the daughter of Donald & Elvina (Olson) Mork.   She was baptized in the Lutheran faith on August 25, 1935 and confirmed on August 14, 1949 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Deer Park, WI.  During her childhood,  her family moved numerous times, eventually settling in Deer Park, WI.   She attended country schools and graduated from Amery High School in 1953.  Gloria was married to Kermit F. Thompson  on September  18, 1954 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and they made their home on Kermit’s family dairy farm in Deer Park.  Together they raised two children, Kermit Jr. and Cindy.   In addition to  being a home maker and helping Kermit with farming, Gloria also worked over the years as a receptionist at the Cornwall Clinic and at Dental Arts in Amery, WI.  She was also employed at Johnson Garment in Clear Lake.  Gloria  loved music and served as the church organist and Sunday school teacher at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Deer Park for many years.  She also taught piano lessons and often was asked to sing at weddings and funerals.  Gloria was  an avid reader and loved to sew and knit for her family,  Together with Kermit, she traveled extensively around the United States, including Alaska,  and took trips to Europe and Asia.   The past few years, Gloria had been a member of First Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, WI.  She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her son, Kermit Jr.; parents, Donald & Elvina Mork;  & brother,  Wayne Mork
