Georgine Nilssen Obituary

Georgine C. Nilssen, age 86 of Clear Lake, WI,  died Sunday,  August 17, 2014 at Willow Ridge Care Center in Amery, WI.

Georgine Charlotte Nilssen was born on December 10, 1927 at Clear Lake,  WI, the daughter of C.E. George & Abbie (Peterson) Hallen.    She grew up in the Clear Lake area and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1945.  After graduation, Georgine attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN and received a degree in Medical Technology.  She went on to do a year internship at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.   Georgine was married to Thomas S. Nilssen , Jr. on June 11, 1950 at the Immanuel Lutheran Chruch in rural Clayton, WI.  Together they made their home in Clear Lake and raised four children, Jill, Julie, Thomas III, and Kari.  In addition to taking care of her family, Georgine worked for many years at the Cornwall Clinic in Amery, which later became the Apple River Valley Memorial Hospital.  She was a very active member of First Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, singing in the   choir, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and serving with the Ladies Aid and Altar Guild.   In her spare time, Georgine enjoyed knitting, sewing, quilting, cross stitching, cooking and baking .  She was an avid reader and loved doing crossword puzzles.  Georgine was very supportive in volunteering at the Clear Lake Public Library and an active member of the Clear Lake Women’s Club.  Georgine loved watching and following her grandchildren’s school and sports activities and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at their cabin on Horseshoe Lake.   She has been a resident of Riverbend in Amery for the past six years.  Georgine was affectionately known to her nieces as a strong, talented and loving woman.  She will be very much missed by her family and friends.   --here's a quote from one of her nieces:    “ Love you, Aunt GiGi --  thanks for all the hand-smocked dresses, the hand-knit Barbie clothes, the rye bread recipe, the to-die-for rice  pudding, the wonderful children you raised, your ever-generous hospitality, and your kindness and strength".

Georgine  is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, Jr.; her son, Thomas III;
parents, George and Abbie Hallen;  and brother, James Hallen.
