Edward T. Yelle, age 96 of Clear Lake, WI, died on Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at the Golden Age Manor in Amery where he had been a resident for the past several years.
Edward Thomas Yelle was born on August 7, 1919, in Reeve, WI, the son Ovid & Myra (Dumas) Yelle. He grew up in Vance Creek township and attended Reeve and Clear Lake Schools. Edward joined the US Army Air Corps in 1941 and served his country during WWII throughout campaigns in North Africa and Western Europe. He was honorably discharged in 1944 and returned to this area to work at NSP where he was employed for many years. In addition to his regular duties at NSP, Edward also invented machines, updated electrical systems, and developed and manufactured a one person hydraulic lift for the trucks that are still in use today. He was a creative and talented inventor, and along with his brother Howard, created unique airplanes, helicopters, motorcycle cars, snow plows, snow mobiles, and tractors, to name a few. Edward was married to Bernice Berglund on October 15, 1982 at the United Covenant Church and together they made their home in Clear Lake, WI. He was also a talented musician and performed regularly with his family’s bands. Edward was a proud member of the Clear Lake American Legion and VFW, which he was a member of for over 70 years. He was also a member of the United Covenant Church in Clear Lake for many years and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
