Dr. John Russell Bruner DVM died peacefully at his home in Clayton, WI on April 30, 2025, at the age of 99. He was born on March 2, 1926, at home in rural Pattonsburg, MO the tenth of fifteen children born to Russell & Fannie Bruner. He spent his formative years on a small farm in Northwest Missouri. His family survived the Great Depression and the chronic drought conditions of the 1930’s. John attended grade and high school in Civil Bend, MO and graduated in 1943. At 18 years of age, he joined the United States Air Force and served during World War II. John began his studies at the University of Missouri in 1946 and was accepted into the College of Veterinary Medicine in 1949. He was married to Carlene Robertson in 1951, and he graduated from Missouri in 1953 with a degree in veterinary medicine. John worked as a field veterinarian for the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture before moving to Turtle Lake to start his own practice. John’s interests included gardening, tree planting, golf, bridge, softball, hunting, reading and telling jokes. Let there be more laughter in life to honor John.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Carlene Bruner; son, D. Roger Bruner;
his parents, Russell & Fannie Bruner; and 13 siblings
John is survived by his wife, Carol McKay; son, John Bruner & daughter Terri (Rod) Nygaard;
Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren
There will be a Visitation from 11 am – 1 pm on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Faith Lutheran Church, 134 South Prentice Street Clayton, WI.
Memorial service will be 1 PM on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Faith Lutheran Church in Clayton, WI.
