Dorothy G. “Gen” Ward, age 88 of Clear Lake, WI, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2020 at the Golden Age Manor Nursing Home in Amery, WI.
Dorothy Genevieve Ward was born on August 29, 1931 in Clayton County, Iowa, the daughter Harry & Vesta (Torkelson) Johnson. She moved with her family at a young age to Clear Lake, WI were she grew up and attended school. Gen graduated from Maplewood Academy in Hutchinson, MN and went on attend the Seventh-day Adventist Union College in Lincoln, NE. After college, she moved to Chicago, Illinois and worked for a short time as a nanny. Gen was married to Otis Ward on September 11, 1955 in Clear Lake, WI and together raised three sons, James, Gregory, & Lanny. During the early years of their marriage, they lived for a short time in Portsmouth, OH, Hutchinson, MN and eventually made their home in Harvey, Illinois. In 1966 they moved to Clear Lake, WI where they owned and operated a diary farm until 1981. After Otis’s death in that year, Gen made her home in the village of Clear Lake. In her spare time she enjoyed her flowers, gardening , scrap booking and taking care of her pets. She was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist church in Clear Lake for much of her life and will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Otis Ward;
parents, Harry & Vesta Johnson;
brother, Harlan Ward & sister , Virginia Ward.
