Clayton D. Wood

Clayton D. Wood, age 95 of Clear Lake, WI,  passed away on Thusrday , October 9, 2014 at the Golden Age Manor Nursing Home in Amery, WI.

Clayton Daniel Wood was born on November 25, 1918 in Lincoln Township, Amery, WI, the son  of Daniel and Ethel (Cain) Wood.  He grew up in Lincoln Township and attended Clayton Schools.   On April 24, 1943, Clayton was united in marriage to Elsie Warner  at the Reeve United Brethren Church and together made their home in Clear Lake and raised three children, Joyce, Jerry, & Jay.   Clayton was engaged in dairy farming until 1950 when back surgery made it difficult to continue farming.   In 1954, he & Elsie purchased the Sport Shop in Clear Lake from Eugene & Rosalee Wade and operated it until 1978.  During that time, Clayton also drove school bus, retiring in 1981 after 26 years of service for the Clear Lake School District.   In his spare time, Clayton enjoyed traveling, gardening, hunting, fishing and trapping.  He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, who were very precious to him.  Over the years, Clayton was active in and around the Clear Lake Community.  He was a member of the 4-County Corners Sportsman’s Club,  the Polk County Sportsman’s Club, and a 4-H Leader who was given recognition for 35 years as a 4-H advisor.  Clayton was also a charter    member of the Clear Lake Historical Museum and an active member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church.  


He is preceded in death by his wife, Elsie;  parents, Daniel & Ethel Wood;  brother Calvin Wood; & sister  Gladys Jennewein

Funeral Service at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake, Wisconsin ,
on  Monday, 13, 2014 at 11 am.

Visitation on Sunday, October 12 at the Scheuermann Funeral Home from 4  - 8  pm and
one hour before the services at the church on Monday.
