Charlie Barney

After a long and hard-fought battle with cancer, Charlie Barney, age 72, passed away peacefully in his home on April 9, 2025.  He was surrounded by his family.

Charles John Barney was born March 31, 1953 to John and Ione Barney (Paulson) in Amery, WI. After graduating from Clear Lake high school in 1971, he went to WITC in Eau Claire for auto mechanics.  Charlie worked as a mechanic in Amery and then owned a gas station in Clear Lake.  On April 15, 1983, he was married to Karen Berg at First Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. Together they made their home in Black Brook Township and raised their family   After a few years, he went into construction with his father.   Charlie quickly discovered that building was what he wanted to do.  He loved working outdoors, and continued to do so until his many health issues forced him to retire. Charlie also served on the town board of Black Brook for 2 years, and then for 20 years as Town Chairman.  He loved fishing and hunting and had many adventures doing both.  Charlie also loved playing cards, watching sports on TV and being with his grandchildren.  After retirement, he and Karen loved getting into the RV and traveling.  They were able to see the US from coast to coast and did some fishing in many different places along the way. 

Charlie is preceded in death by his daughter CharLea Barney; 

parents John and Ione Barney; & his brother Melvin Barney.

He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 42 years, Karen Barney;

Children, Jason Barney (Jodi), Laura Carlson (Ryan) and Matthew Barney (Amber);

Grandchildren, Katie, Kelsie, Tristan, Greysen, Annabelle, Evelyn, Henry and Charley;

brother, James Barney   and  sister,  Kathy Nelson (Dennis); 

Relatives, Family and Many Friends

Memorial Service are at 1 pm on Monday, April 14, 2025 at the United Covenant Church in Clear Lake, WI

Visitation from 11am - 1 pm on Monday, April 14, 2025 at the United Covenant Church

Interment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery at a later date

There will be an informal gathering of family and friends at Raising the Bar Event Center after the memorial service.
