Alger Monson Obituary

Alger Elarency Monson was born on March 1, 1930, to Arvid and Mary Monson in Clear Lake, Wisconsin.  He    attended the Clear Lake schools and graduated in 1949.  He then began hauling milk for Winston Carlson.  He was united in marriage to Lorraine Gale, on February 17, 1951, in Reeve, Wisconsin.  Together, they raised four children, Stephen Ward, Kevin Alger, Colleen Kaye, and Janelle Marie.  In the Spring of 1952, Alger got a job with the Clear Lake Creamery as a fieldman and was also farming on the family farm.  Then, in the fall of 1952, they purchased the Victor Tulgren farm that was adjacent to his parents' farm.  He continued to work as a fieldman until 1957 when they purchased Pat Wilson's can and bulk milk routes, which Alger then operated until the fall of 1968.  In 1961, the farm was incorporated and operated as Monson Farms until it was sold in the late 80's.  He was employed by Land O’Lakes in Clear Lake, Wisconsin, for 15 years.  After retiring, he continued doing odd jobs for Son Auto.

Alger was a member of the Reeve Evangelical Free Church and served on many church boards throughout the years.  He enjoyed traveling, bird-watching, spending time with family and helping and serving others.  He was also an avid prep sports fan, and especially enjoyed being part of the Missionaires Quartet.  Alger's faith was evident in everything he did.

Alger went home to be with the Lord on October 25, 2012, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN, after a brief illness.  He was preceded in death by parents Arvid and Mary Monson, and brothers Veldon and Harvey.  He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; his children Stephen (Amy) Monson, Kevin (Julie) Monson, Colleen (Tim) Mitchell, and Janelle (Gerry) Becker; his 13 grandchildren, Maribeth (Scott) Hagley, Matthew (Jocelyn) Monson,  Rebecca (Jesse) Peterson, Sarah (Jarrod) Powell, Joey (JT) Lillie, Samuel (Kristina) Monson, Jessica (Jamie) Donnerbauer, Nathan (Julie) Mitchell, Bethany (Casey) Hahn, Luke Mitchell, Jason Mitchell,  Ginny (Jesse) GrothOlson, Beau (Emily) Becker, and 26--soon to be 27--great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by sister-in-law Mary Monson, brother Walter (Ardella) Monson, sisters Edith (Dave) Paulson and  Helen Netta (Svend) Jensen.

A family internment will be held at the Swedish Congregational Cemetery in Clear Lake.
